Summer Shadows - Figures on Friday

Summer Shadows, 12 x 12, oil on panel, L. Daniel © 2023
SOLD

This summer sure has gone fast!! It has been a full one, with LOTS of great family time and LOTS of fun. We are still having very hot weather, but school is back in session, and it's time to get back to some routines... like, Figures on Friday!

I painted this piece back in June on a trip down to the Georgia coast, and am just getting around to posting it. I loved the light on this little pathway to the beach, AND the light on my painting buddy as she searched for the perfect view. (It's nice to have a painting friend for a subject... she was willing to walk out there a few times for me! Thank you A.T.)

Wherever you are, enjoy these few days of summer!

Creek Reflections

Creek Reflections, 12 x 16, oil on panel, L. Daniel
SOLD

The marshlands of St. Simons have a particular draw for me... but when deep reflections are involved, I am unable to resist! The stillness, the soft ripples, the warm winter grasses... Mmmm Mmm... so delish! I am looking forward to getting back!

Call of the Marsh, and Happy New Year!

Call of the Marsh, 12 x 16, oil on panel, L. Daniel © 2022
SOLD

I just returned from celebrating the holidays with my family on the Georgia coast. It was a delicious time with four generations, and never a dull (or quiet) moment with our grandkids having cousin time!

Happily, we planned an extra week for ourselves and I was able to get in some painting time as well! It felt so good to dip those brushes and focus back in after a few weeks away from the easel! ;) Inspiration is everywhere at the beach, and I can never get enough!

Wishing you all a happy and inspired new year!

Mossy Veil

Mossy Veil, 12 x 16, oil on panel, L. Daniel © 2021
SOLD

The Low Country is known for its Live Oaks dripping with Spanish Moss. They are huge, and beautiful, and a challenge to paint! In my workshops, we have long conversations about what color that moss is. Why? Because it is ever changing as the light hits from different directions. Sometimes it looks grey or grey-green, and almost blends in with the color and value with the foliage. Other times, like this one, it becomes a yellowy gold because the light is coming through it. Discovery requires observation in real time.

"It just depends" doesn't seem like a good answer, but sometimes that is the ONLY answer!  :)

Upcoming workshops:
St. Simons Island, GA - April 8-10
Austin, TX - May 14-15 (full w/wait list)

Bright Lights - No Place Like Home

Bright Lights - Congress Avenue, 18 x 18, oil on panel, L. Daniel © 2013
SOLD

These are the bright lights of downtown Austin on a drippy wet evening. Our Texas State Capitol building is stunning in any weather (you know it's taller than the U.S. Capitol in Washington DC, don't you?) This piece is one of several that I painted for the upcoming "No Place Like Home" exhibit at the Davis Gallery. The opening reception is this Saturday... please come by if you are in town!

Dangling Fruit

Dangling Fruit, 18 x 24, oil on canvas, L. Daniel © 2012
Available at the Davis Gallery

This is the last of the pomegranates... for now anyway! Happy am I, to see the series framed and beautifully installed in the Davis Gallery Holiday Group Show. The opening reception was Saturday night and though I had every intention of taking lots of photos, I only managed to get this one before the festivities began.

The work is on display through January 19, 2013, so please stop by if you are in the area. Click HERE to see all of my work that is included in the exhibit.

Ruby Orbs (enlarged)

Ruby Orbs (enlarged version), 18 x 24, oil on canvas, L. Daniel © 2012
Available at the Davis Gallery

I have been on a pomegranate painting binge lately... I simply can not resist their shape and color and essence. This is the enlarged version of a study I posted last week; and is one of three paintings in a series that will be on display at the Davis Gallery Holiday Group Show. The exhibit opens this coming weekend and includes fabulous work by many of our gallery artists. If you are in town, please stop by for the reception on Saturday. I hope to see you there!
