Poppies, Poppies...
Poppies, Poppies, 12 x 12 Poppies really are seductive - they kind of captivate the unwitting passersby. These red ones at the botanical garden today reminded of that scene from the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy Gale is lulled into a deep sleep in a poppy field. In my head I kept hearing that cackle, "I'll get you, my pretty!" That used to scare me so much! :)

Hi Laurel,
I don't think it's right to have a favorite flower, but if I did the poppy would be it! This is just wonderful. I love, love, love poppies and hope they come up in my garden this month. A gorgeous painting -- right on!
XOXOXOBarbara
This is really cool, very abstract.
I LOVE poppies too, all kinds.
Love the pop of the flowers against the neutral background.
I always loved that in that scene, though Dorothy and the lion and Toto were asleep in the poppies, the other two were there to watch out for them and yell for help! Now, that's what friends are for!
This is so stunning Laurel! Love the read against all that gray and the abstract background is killer. I need to channel you!
Funny how things get caught in our heads while we paint a subject. Love the way you have handled the poppies: there is a feeling of a warm breeze blowing on these delicate petals. r.
"... and your little dog, too!" Beautiful. Where were these? I too, love poppies. There is definitely an opiate quality about this painting. I looked for you before leaving yesterday, but didn't know that you had gone over the rainbow... Okay, I'll stop. ;)
Wow stunning! My eye went right to this when I saw it in my sidebar this morning. It does POP!
That used to scare me too. :)
I love the vibrancy of the red - great piece!
Your colours are fabulous in this one.
This is gorgeous. Amazing color.
the read really pops!!
Beautiful!
Judy
nice vivid reds, but really it is your rapid lively brushstrokes here that seem to energize this beautiful painting for me! Love it!
OOOOoooo, I love the poppies!
I love you!
