Honeymoon Cactus

Honeymoon Cactus, 12 x 12

I don't know the real name of this plant, but one of my painting buddies dubbed it the "Honeymoon Cactus." On their honeymoon, her then-new husband carefully broke an ear off a plant like this and took it home as a momento. They stuck it in the ground and it became a huge plant. Though the young honeymooners have moved several times since that first planting, each time they took an ear of the cactus with them, and started another plant at their new home. I love that!

What a beautiful story! And yes of course the painting too! As always, I love your edges, and the composition in this one is really striking.

Such a nice story. Reminds me a little of the book "The Lupine Lady" that my kids loved to read. Its nice to pass by places we've lived and see the trees and gardens maturing. A beautiful rendition. You know plants so well.

Great story and a lovely painting, too.

I love the look of this type of cactus and how you've managed to capture it's essence so well!

Hi Laurel,

I've never thought of a cactus as romantic before. You've infused this one with such loving and kind colour, and a brilliantly lit quality that I see the romance.

Lovely.

Love this! I think it is a prickley pear catus...and I believe jelly is made from its fruit. Lots to look at here, nice painting--love your work.

Nice one! It is indeed a prickly pear, with a cactus rose...ummm when I was in Arizona someone told me it was the Yellow Rose of Texas. Not sure if that's true but the painting is lovely!
