Storm Overhead

Storm Overhead, 36 x 36

We are in a severe drought here in Texas this summer, so storms are just something we dream about... or go on vacations to experience! This is a larger version of the plein air study I painted in Georgia last month. I love the anticipation of a good, hard rain; I especially enjoyed the drama of the darkened sky and watching the light break through in the distance.

One can sense the storm overhead, but the colors you chose are so calming. It makes me want to hunker down and enjoy the rain. Absolutely beautiful painting, Laurel!

Your paintings have such grandeur....
They seem so simple but they say so much...
Just wonderful, Laurel!

This reminds me so much of the marshland on the coast of NC. I used to love watching the rain move across the water in these big storms. Your painting makes me feel like I am right there. I can smell the marsh, feel the growing breeze. It is all so beautiful!

This is so incredibly dramatic...it's overwhelming in a wondrous kind of way.

Nice, just wish that was the sky here in Austin! lol I'm leaving to go back to Oklahoma tomorrow morning. I didn't get back in time to go to the plein air paint group on the 25th. but I will be back in a few months. got to get home and get ready for a show in September. I enjoyed meeting you and thank you for introducing me to the others. See you next time.

This is lovely. I've been enjoying your Georgia paintings because I also live in the southeast (NC) and we don't have the beautiful clear skies you get in the west.

Just wonderful Laurel, I love the simplicity of this scene.

Thank you for the award! I have been away for 2 weeks but will try to pass it on when I return home.

Hi Laurel,

I think we need to share some of our storms with you. I am getting in the habit of unplugging my computer when I leave the house because there may be another thunder storm.

Just magnificent work.

XOXOXOBarbara

Wish we could give you some of the quantity of rain we got all spring.
