12th Street Palms, 12 x 9

In an attempt to paint on the beach one morning (still on the GA coast), I realized that although it was early, I was already too late. The sun was way too high and the light was just too bright without an umbrella or some sort of covering. However, just over the dunes these palm trees were casting beautiful, crisp shadows and there was a big shady spot to stand in!

I just love the color of the shadows. So cool they make the light look even warmer.

My most favorite part of painting. It creates the drama and many artists do not get that.
Since taking a workshop last March with the incomparable Carol Marine, I begin my process by deciding on the colors I will use which eliminates having to try and find them as I work.
