Morning Breaks

Morning Breaks (study), L. Daniel, 6 x 12, SOLD

This is the image I ended up painting again in the larger format. I have been on a wide and skinny jag and this angle seemed to suit that need perfectly! What I really love is how the church, though still prominent, blends into the countryside and meshes with the humbler buildings next to it. It establishes a certain connectedness between the earthly and the spiritual.

    Wow is right. Beautiful composition, amazingly rendered. Love the brighter warm light coming from down near the horizon. And the fineness of the spire and wires is fabulous.

    Okay, I love these church paintings so much, but one of the things I am fascinated with both in your work lately and as an idea I have for my own photography, is the recurrence of telephone lines. They fascinate me with the way they recede visually but go on and on endlessly all across the country. Their shape kind of fascinates me as well. I have a little ongoing side project of photographing scallops and I continually want to find just the right setting to photograph telephone lines for this project.

    Beautiful paintings. I love the directness of of your brushwork and the crisp, clean look of your colors. This painting in particular has a wonderful vantage point, and is perfect for the extra wide format. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
