Stormy Sunday

Stormy Sunday, L. Daniel, 12 x 12

...otherwise known as "the day it finally rained"! This weekend was Plein Air Austin's year-end barbecue at Westlake Beach, a old and favorite Austin haunt. We gathered in the afternoon to paint first (because that's what we do) and families joined us later. Well, don't you know, about an hour in, the sky darkened like someone had turned off the lights... and yes... rain happened. We all ducked under pavilions to wait it out and then went back and finished our paintings. It didn't last long, but it was a thrill. (I mean that - an absolute thrill - we are literally praying for the wet stuff.)

  1. I love this! It has a certain energy to it, surely because of the anticipation of the rain you have desperately needed out there. It looks like it was a joy to paint.

I hope winter brings lots of rain to you :).

  5. Just wonderful mood in this one with the darker soft values and the feel of a stormy day. Beautiful grasses in the front in gorgeous greens. Beautiful and so glad y'all got that much needed rain too!

  6. Beautiful painting. The mood created is very strong and I love the little areas of off white between the clouds.

  8. Heavenly days! This is gorgeous! So stirring. I LOVE storms and I feel the storm coming and all the excitment that comes with one. I could say it 100 times and it still not express how crazy I am about this painting! Is it for sale?

I love the way you paint! I hope to take one of your workshops in the near future.
