Earthen Vessels, L. Daniel, 8 x 6, SOLD
The thing I love about gardens is that they offer many opportunities to study intricate layers of light and dark in a close range. There is always something popping up to interrupt the light; and I'm attracted to both the extreme contrasts and subtle nuances that result. These urns in my garden are situated "just so" to perfectly punctuate an early morning sunbeam.

It's really nice - beautiful shades of light and dark!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Laurel - you are so good at distilling down the essence of your subject in your paintings! I spent the day painting a garden, and I have to agree with you about the intriguing and compelling nature of the lights and darks. Fun, but challenging.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I took photos one time on Cape Cod of a ladies private garden with earthen vessels very similar to these. She came out hollering at me and was surprisingly unkind. I never did paint the image, though I loved it, because the shock of her reaction bothered me so. She didn't care that I was an artist and even though I apologized for walking on her property (driveway) because I was so captivated by the beauty, it never broke a smile on her face.
ReplyDeleteWow, bet you had no idea you'd bring back such memories with your darling painting!
Beautiful and inspiring in its simplicity and capturing a moment in time. I love that about your work, Laurel!
ReplyDeleteAnother amazing light show!
ReplyDeleteInteresting composition and bright colors. Greetings and congratulations
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful. Simplicity of form and cleanness of color are two of your best gifts.
ReplyDeleteReally nice, Laurel. I love the way the light hits the forms and the way the blue flowers dance.
ReplyDeleteThe lights and darks in the shrubbery are beautiful. Love how the light strikes one pot while the other is in shadow. Very nice!
