Island Alley

Island Alley, L. Daniel, 12 x 9

As kids, we used to play in the alley behind our grandparents' home in Wisconsin. There was always an intrigue about being in that "in between" place separating the backyards. (And I remember there were always hollyhocks growing there.) This dirt alleyway has that same kind of draw for me. This is not the alleyway of my childhood, but I have been wanting to paint it for a long time. :)

  1. Nice nostalgia. My back alley as a kid had rows of washing

  2. My aunt lived in Savannah, GA. There was a dirt alleyway behind the last house she lived in, which even as an adult really intrigued me. The dirt ones almost feel like paths, or trails that lead to some sort of mystery. Love your painting!

It's more spectacular than any alley I've been in.

    Love your work!

  6. There was something really magical about the alley behind grandma and grandpa's house...that garage with someone living in it, the rotting stump, the bleeding hearts, the back gates...I remember walking down the alley and trying to peer through the fence at the Ferraro's pool. I totally get it!
