Dune Grasses

Dune Grasses, L. Daniel, 6 x 8

I am painting a lot of grasses these days. They are such challenge. I particularly loved how some of these were in shadow and the contrast that shadow presented.

  1. I love "grasses" and yes they are always a challenge... although you've handled them very well.

Have you looked at Clyde Aspevig's series of paintings called something like "land snorkeling"? They are just grasses and weeds and flowers.. Amazing. I actually think the term he uses means really looking at the beauty around you on land as if you were in a coral reef.

  2. Another good composition that would make a nice large painting.

  3. Sand and grasses. It's such a lovely combination! It shows you're having fun with these. Funny how that pops out in our work, don't you think? You're making me want to paint some similar ones for my Cape Cod gallery.

  4. Your composition is so perfect in this painting. I'm sure it's perfect in all of them, but I really noticed it on this one. If you divide the canvas into thirds both ways, everything is perfectly positioned.Fantastic! I love the sand and grasses as well, and the shadow in the foreground adds such depth. Beautiful!

  7. This is gorgeous. I have a hard time with grasses, I tend to make too many vertical strokes, like I'm drawing each blade. I think you really nailed it in Ocean Beach.
