I love the swimming holes in Texas! There are so many really cool places to dip in the water and sit in the shade in this area. Today, my plein air friends drove 30 miles out of town to Krause Springs- a family owned campground and, well, swimming hole. This spring fed creek runs through limestone outcroppings and is complete with a cave and rope swing. Kids of all ages were having a ball!! And so refreshing after painting in the heat! :)
I am always in complete awe how you can pick almost anything, sometimes mundane (a bush growing by a rock) and make it look gorgegous. It is such a gift.
Your reflections are AMAZING! My parents know the people who own Krause Springs and I've heard about it but never been there. Will have to plan an outing!
the colors create a true feeling of the heat haze - i really like the reflections in the water, too! thank you! (btw, we could use some of your high temps here if you'd like to send some over - it's cold!)
It is very hot here in OH.I admire plein air painters who go out to paint in any weather. Your work shows that determination to get it right. Nice painting.
This is a superb painting, Laurel. Wonderful brushwork & colors as always. I missed seeing you there. I was "downstream" a little way, but did get in for a dip !
If you get a chance rent a canoe at Barton Springs and paddle down it toward the dam. I'm not sure if theres a place to setup a tripod on the rocks but when I get a chance thats a spot I'd do for sure. I wish I lived in Austin :).
One of these days I will. Maybe if a hurricane comes I'll have a reason to get up there, lol.
this totally evokes a river bank swimming hole kind of like the one we used to visit in Lake George, NY. Love the yellow shimmer on the surface. You got it perfectly.
Beautiful Laurel,
ReplyDeleteIt's hot here too. I don't know how you paint in the heat I hear you're having. Gorgeous work.
XOXOXOXOBarbara
Beautiful! Your greys in the rocks and grouns plane are masterful.

I like your fluency and how you still capture very different textures with consistent broad strokes on such a small scale. Well done!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! I so love your work. I am inspired to get out in the 100 degree heat here in Tennessee. :)
ReplyDeleteWell done Laurel. I really admire your painting spirit and the way it informs your work. Just lovely!

Good Creations
Your use of subtle use of color, and the greyed colors is wonderful. Well done! Ah, to swim after painting, sounds great!
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to go back tomorrow! I love how you still got the highlight on that rock in the shadow.

This is one of my favorites of yours. Killer colors and an amazing sense of place!
ReplyDeleteI love your work and keep coming back to your painting of a simple little tree.
ReplyDeleteThe reflection in the water is a real teaser on these hot days. Very nice!
