Hay Rolls with Summer Sky

Hay Rolls with Summer Sky, L. Daniel, 18 x 18

This is the larger painting of Hay Rolls. I was drawn to the wonderful variety of "rolling" forms in this scene: the spools of hay in the foreground, the undulating tree masses and distant hills, and finally the swirling sky shapes. All seemed to be unified by that summer afternoon in Texas, white bright light that we know so well.

  3. This is so beautiful! I love the sky and just can't quit looking at it wondering how you do it! I also love hay roll paintings and this just captures them so perfectly!

  6. I love how bright it is. The study painting was great too, but this larger piece is just luminous.

  7. Me too! I really drawn to the slightly geometric, slightly random quality of hay roles. I am always wanting to stop and photograph them. However, i always think that you need the lighting just right. sigh. AND there just aren't places to stop by the side of the road out here.
