Morning Vapors

Morning Vapors (study), 9 x 12
Old Town Road, Southampton
.
This is the last of my Long Island plein air paintings. I'm always sad when I know I am out painting in a place for the last time. I felt like I was just starting to "get it" and then it was time to go home. SO, don't be surprised when you see some of these images again. I have been revisiting the fog and the mist and the vapors in my studio ever since I got back. It's like finishing a thought - you're kind of stuck until you get it all out! :)
.
Painting friends - Is anyone going to the "Weekend with the Masters" in Colorado Springs next week? I will be there and think it would be fun to try and meet up. Let me know.

  1. I think Long Island gave you some wonderful challenges, all of which you've met incredibly well — and with such apparent ease!

  2. Your Long Island paintings are gorgeous. You would enjoy painting the Eastern Shore of Maryland-very similar misty views.

  3. Another great painting. I really get the foggy feel in the trees in the background. Look forward to getting together w/ you here in Colorado Springs next week.

  7. Laurel--I am a painter in San Antonio--I am blown away by your paintings. They are what I aspire to--love the simplified shapes and strong design as well as the color. Would love some feedback from you on my own work. I do alot of Riverwalk pieces but right now doing a series of still lifes.

  8. I juxtaposed images of several of your recent works to reinforce the point that you skillfully portray various lighting and atmospheric conditions. Morning Vapors and Cutting Through describe strong sunlight, but manifested in such different ways. I have a clear, visceral reaction to each, as you've placed me in these extraordinary settings. Yay!
