Old Main Street, 7 x 5, SOLD Boarded up windows and empty storefronts was all that was left of this little downtown shopping area I drove through. I failed to write down the name of this town that was so deserted, but I found myself easily imagining it in a more lively time. To me it's sad, I am not a big fan of "progress". :)

ReplyDeleteA beautiful painting with a poignant feeling. In Nova Scotia these towns happen because big trawlers have hurt the fishing business. Down some small highways you see beautiful old churches in white clapboard, houses and barns empty, the town no longer viable. I'm not a fan of that type
of progress either.

prevalent in our world today. I came from
a small village or burg like this with the old
hardware store with the squeaky wooden floor
and the small bins of individual screws, nuts and bolts.
Now all we have are big box stores.
Again, a beautiful painting, a memorial to the past.

My husband's mother came from a tiny town on the South Western shore of Nova Scotia. We visit every summer and the area is stuck in time (which I LOVE). The young people have to move to Halifax because the ship building and fishing industries have gone. The landscape is dramatic and the air is fresh and cool. I love it!
This painting evokes the mood of abandonment. Very Hopper-esque
