Luminated

Luminated, L. Daniel, 6 x 8, SOLD
I did this small study in preparation for a larger night sky painting that I will post tomorrow. The big one is a bit more ambitious as I included a much larger portion of the pier. Isolating this smaller section allowed me to work out some of the color/value relationships and silhouette shapes before tackling it on the grand scale. This can be a very helpful process!!!

Nicely done. I think you nailed the colors and values, creating a very effective nocturne.

Love the color choice and simplicity of this piece.

Beautiful! Your colors and composition pull me in. It feels serene. Looking forward to seeing the larger painting.

lovely - serene, muted colors really work together well... i have to admit i frequently do my pre-painting color work on the computer first, then wing it when i paint!

thank you for sharing this!

I think this one is fantastic Laurel. I agree with what you said about the study helping you get the feel of the colors in preparation for a bigger painting. In the larger painting I think you included to much and the lights reflecting of the water are a little overbearing. Just my opinion maybe reduce the reflection. But if your were going for a big reflection like that maybe darken the tone of the sky.
